POSTCARDS FROM MANCHESTER FESTIVAL 2010
Saturday September 18th, The Deaf Institute, Manchester

Manchester can be a daunting place when it comes to music. A city that attracts thousands of new students each year because of a rich musical history has a lot to live up to. It can’t afford to disappoint.

The exciting present needs to be represented, and not with A&R men in suits telling you what’s in or out, and certainly not with cheap reminiscing.

Postcards from Manchester is a collective of likeminded music lovers from Pull Yourself Together, Underachievers Please Try Harder, You! Me! Dancing! and Young Adult Friction.

Postcards From Manchester 2010 aims to show what Manchester is all about- innovation, originality, and most importantly, fun. And this year it takes place on Saturday September 18th in the best live music venue in the North, The Deaf Institute.

Headline acts confirmed are:

HERE WE GO MAGIC

“Here We Go Magic are doing something more interesting, something weirder; they’re trying out takes on jittery new wave, tone-smeared dream-pop, and high-pitched Kiwi pop with success” – Pitchfork

ALLO DARLIN’

“Though inevitable comparisons to fellow Aussies The Go-Betweens will undoubtedly accompany Allo Darlin’ wherever they are heard, they are possessive of something quite different to those bands… their debut is a joy from beginning to end, a fully-formed talent at the first attempt – as rare as it is welcome” – BBC Music

TRAILER TRASH TRACYS

“We’re not sure who is responsible for the woozy atmospherics and the echoey production, but the ghosts of Kevin Shields and Joe Meek are there or thereabouts…” – The Guardian, New Band of the Day

Other acts include a very special – and UK first – solo set from former Electrelane member VERA NOVEMBER (aka. Verity Susman) and lo-fi indie-poppers INTERNET FOREVER (“They sound like the start of summer, all running around, happy and carefree” – This is Fake DIY).

And, of course, we’re presenting some of the best Manchester has to offer, such as MAZES (“Mazes are simply going about their business, making better music than pretty much every other band in the country” – Pigeon Post) and D/R/U/G/S (“They make hypnotic, ambient dance music in the vein of Blondes or Teengirl Fantasy” – Vice).

Other Manchester acts include GOLDEN GLOW (“Spectral Mancunian Post-Punks” – Time Out), ELMO LOGIC (“they sound like nothing less than Manchester’s next great guitar band” – Manchester Music) and DEAF TO VAN GOGH’S EAR (“DTVGE’s greatest gift in shattering the pretentions of experimental math-rock has to be their incredible songwriting talent” – Manchester Evening News/City Life).

And, after the bands have finished, there’s set to be one of the biggest indie discos we think Manchester has ever seen, bringing all of Postcards together with DJ sets over two floors. It promises to be a very special day indeed. Expect more to be announced soon….
